Haven began as a distraction. I figured I'd make a little drum n' bass EP with the songs named after characters from a certain anime/manga I liked (and that I still like.) It was meant to be a break from the troubles I was having getting Never Yours To Share It to come together into a cohesive album. However, Haven eventually ended up as an LP, and as one that I wanted to sound good at that. Of course, that would be easier said than done, because I'd end up upgrading from Reason 1.1 to 3.0.4, which radically changed my ability to mix and master tracks, and I ended up much more focused on Nerdcore Hiphop than I had originally imagined as well, which meant the time I figured I spend making a drum n' bass CD was otherwise filled. However, by slowly pegging away at things, I finally created the version of Haven I wanted: a loud, aggressive, dance floor-oriented drum n' bass LP. Listening to it now, it almost creeps me out. It's a spooky CD, and the contrast between the names and the music almost accentuates that though it ultimately works in my opinion.

In fact, I haven't really written much drum n' bass after this CD outside of some stuff for my nerdcore work, and I think that's in part because with this CD I've stated a lot of what I wanted to inside of drum n' bass. I'll probably revisit the genre at some point, but if this were my last drum n' bass release, I wouldn't necessarily feel like I had left anything undone either. It's not perfect, and their are plenty of better drum n' bass albums, but at the moment, this is my best work in that genre.
